Christine Costanzo, MD Dr. Christine Costanzo has been with Women's Psychotherapy Centre of Wisconsin since 2001. A board certified psychiatrist, Dr. Costanzo brings to her practice expertise in psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy, working with individuals (both adolescents and adults) who want to address the underpinnings of their depression, anxiety, relationship dissatisfaction, low self-esteem and difficulty meeting life goals. Dr. Costanzo has a special interest in creativity and it's inhibition, as an artist herself, as well as an interest in cross-cultural issues. In addition to psychotherapy, Dr. Costanzo also treats the full spectrum of psychiatric illnesses pharmacologically--including severe depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders--including post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit disorder and diseases of aging. Dr. Costanzo is a graduate from Miami University in Ohio with a BA in psychology in 1988 she went on to The Ohio State University Medical School and graduated in 1993. She attended Northwestern University in downtown Chicago for her internship and completed her residency in psychiatry at The University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1997. During her residency she sought out training in cross-cultural psychiatry which included working on the Menomonee Indian reservation as well as working with the Southeast Asian Project through the Mental Health Center of Dane County. She had special training in women's issues, working at the UW Women's Health Clinic and for Recovery Options for Women and Children, also through the mental health center. In addition, Dr. Costanzo has pursued ongoing studies in the evolving area psychoanalytic/psychodynamic psychotherapy, including undergoing analysis with a training analyst through the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute. In 1997 Dr. Costanzo worked throughout the United States in areas of medical need for 15 months subsequently taking a position with the Pathway Clinic in Prairie du Sac, WI where she was the medial director from 2001-2004. From 1998-2000 she ran the Clarion Center, a geriatric psychiatric inpatient and outpatient program through St. Clare hospital in Baraboo, WI and was on the medical staff at St. Clare hospital and Sauk Prairie Hospital in Prairie du Sac. Dr. Costanzo is now in full time practice at Women's Psychotherapy Centre of Wisconsin. She enjoys the vibrant intellectual atmosphere of the clinic, where therapeutic ideas are continually explored in relation to the cultural-political environment within which they exist. |
