Using the foundations of Interpersonal Neurobiology, sandtray therapy is a gentle approach to allowing our inner world "a world without words" to unfold. Trauma stored in the body begins to move with our hands in the sand. Placing miniature objects as symbols of our inner world can be a profound experience of allowing the traumatic material to transform.
Mindfully "playing" activates the deep emotional circuits in our brains and body when used in sandtray therapy. This assists the healing and integration of embedded traumas of the past that live outside our conscious awareness, and that can influence all of our adult relationships.
People who have experienced the power of sandtray work have described it as finding a language they didn't know they had, and it can feel like a profound coming home to oneself.
