At Women's Psychotherapy Centre of Wisconsin, I provide psychotherapy from a feminist perspective for people of all genders. I am committed to social justice and anti-racism, and one of the lenses that I view the struggles that bring people into therapy is seeing these issues in a social context.
Some of those struggles – depression, anxiety, eating disorders, self-injury, relationship troubles, helplessness and hopelessness are often the consequences of living in a troubled world, not because people are "sick" or have a "disorder". For instance, violence - physical, sexual, emotional, psychological – is an all too common experience in our culture. The many forms that violence can take are sexism, misogyny, racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia, classism, ableism, ageism, anti-semitism, and discrimination based on religion or culture . This violence can leave deep wounds that affect one's safety in the world and feelings of low self-worth which can make life very difficult.
With compassion, thoughtfulness and sensitivity, I seek to explore the links between these kinds of social problems and each person's unique life experiences. My aim is helping people move towards more freedom from suffering while supporting them as they make changes in their lives. I believe that facilitating individual healing allows a person to better relate to the world from a place of compassion and inner strength, making the world a safer and saner place for all humans.
