Nicolle Levy, Ph.D I see therapy as a collaborative process, where the client takes the 'expert seat'. No one knows you better than yourself. My role is to offer my knowledge and skills when and where appropriate to help you gain insight into your concerns and facilitate the growth or change that you desire. I try to create a relaxed, informal, and non-judgmental environment for my clients to feel comfortable while exploring, questioning, learning and growing.
My approach is client-centered and strength based. I have treated a wide range of concerns, which include depression, anxiety, sexual trauma, grief and loss, eating disorders and body image, relationship concerns, and family of origin issues. As a holistic therapist I am a strong advocate of self-care and believe it is an essential component in treatment. Behaviors such as good sleeping, healthy eating, and having a social support system are crucial in obtaining overall psychological well being. In addition to gaining insight into one's self I also encourage my clients to examine all of the social, cultural, political factors that may be contributing to their concerns. I also perform a variety of psychological assessments (including psychological, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and learning disability evaluations) in a non-threatening environment that is rooted in the understanding that testing is only one part of the bigger picture.
I am a counseling psychologist who graduated from Colorado State University. I have worked in university counseling centers (including University of Wisconsin – Madison's Counseling and Consultation Services from 2002-2004), community mental health centers, and hospices. My interest in feminism and psychology developed as a result of my early work with victim's of sexual assault and domestic violence. My hope is to empower clients to recognize their strengths and take the risks necessary that will allow them to live the life they want. |
